MIL-STD Defense Standard A document that establishes uniform engineering and technical requirements for military-unique or substantially modified commercial processes, procedures, practices, and methods. There are five types of defense standards: interface standards, design criteria standards, manufacturing process standards, standard practices, and test method standards. MIL-PRF Performance Specification A performance specification states requirements in terms of the required results with criteria for verifying compliance but without stating the methods for achieving the required results. A performance specification defines the functional requirements for the item, the environment in which it must operate, and interface and interchangeability characteristics.

However, LSA documentation must be tailored to each acquisition program and life cycle phase.
An application guidance appendix appendix D is included herein to provide guidance on tailoring of LSAR data requirements to meet individual program objectives in a cost-effective manner. The general requirements of this standard also require completion of LSAR data selection sheets DD Form to identify specific data for each program in order to prevent indiscriminate blanket applications of the data requirements. This standard is directed toward improving the cost effectiveness of the generation, maintenance, acquisition, and use of the technical data required to support an ILS program.
This is accomplished through the following: a. Consolidation of logistics oriented technical information for the various engineering disciplines and ILS elements into one file to reduce redundancy, facilitate timely usage, and enhance consistency between elements and disciplines.
Maximum use of industry developed integrated data systems tied to engineering, manufacturing, and product support databases as sources of LSA documentation.
The relational design of LSAR data is intended to facilitate such integration and to encourage independent development of useful ad hoc queries which promote use of the data in the design process.
